Alípio Tomé Pinto: O Capitão do Quadrado
HOLOS is proud to have made possible the book Alípio Tomé Pinto: O Capitão do Quadrado, by Sarah Adamoupoulos and Alípio Tomé Pinto, about the life and brilliant military career of Lieutenant General Tomé Pinto.
In Lisbon, the book launch took place on 7 April at the Palácio da Independência, where some of the leading national and international figures were present, presenting the biographee with an absolutely full room.
For professional reasons, General António Ramalho Eanes could not attend; however, his appointed representative General Alexandre de Sousa Pinto read the speech the General had prepared, from which we highlight the following:
«Tomé Pinto is, for me, who have known him for decades, not only, as he himself states in this book, a Soldier by passion, but above all a soldier of dream and adventure, of vocation, ambition and mission, one of the best among the best, and not only in the Military Institution, but also in the Country (Portugal)»
At the same ceremony, General Alexandre de Sousa Pinto also took the opportunity to offer some words to the biographee, namely the following:
«the exercise of the military profession demands a vocation; just like the priest, the soldier who has no true vocation will always be unhappy and, more seriously, will make unhappy the subordinates who have to put up with him.»
In Angola, the launch took place at the Fortress in Luanda, this past 12 April.
General Tomé Pinto discovered his vocation early on, as is clearly demonstrated in this biography by the friendship that his subordinates feel they owe him!
