A viagem à Sicília de Alberto Caeiro – Accursio Soldano
After a long and tiring train journey through Sicily, Alberto Caeiro and his strange travelling companion arrive at a village on the south-west coast of the island, intending to visit Filippo, an old sculptor they have heard about.
Between Caeiro and this surly Sicilian peasant-artist, who carves heads into the stones and trees of his farm overlooking the Mediterranean, a singular dialogue unfolds, the guiding thread of this astonishing encounter in a land of farmers and fishermen. Under the burning sun of Sicily, the two travellers enter a labyrinthine world of ancestral tales and beliefs, walking the narrow paths that separate reality from illusion.
About the Author:
Accursio Soldano was born in 1957 in Sciacca, Sicily, where he currently lives. After training in Philosophy, he devoted himself to journalism, contributing to the newspapers La Repubblica, L’Ora and Diario, as well as being responsible for the culture section of the broadcaster Tele Radio Sciacca. He published the novels Il venditore di attimi (Graphofeel, 2012), Aspettando Mr.Wolf (Graphofeel, 2014), La maledizione dell’abbazia di Thelema (Leucotea, 2016) and the essay Giuseppe Bellanca e i pionieri sulle macchine volanti (Epsylon, 2013). He is also the author of plays and film scripts, notably Don Turi e Gano di Magonza, which won the Special Jury Prize at the Parma Music International Film.
Sometimes I wonder how many poems I might have been able to write, and how many Keats would have written, had we had more time. A few more years… just enough time to understand what one must do. Give me a golden pen, and let me stretch out over rivers of flowers in clear and distant regions. Have you ever noticed? The poet is the least poetic being of the whole human species, because he has no identity, he is always in another's place, spending his entire existence filling other bodies and seeking to arouse feelings in readers he will never know.
