Funded by the European Commission under the “ICT – Information and Communication Technologies” program of its 7th Framework Programme, the project aims at achieving the following objectives:

  • Create a concept of industrial organization based on intelligent manufacturing units, self-adaptive to changes in product/production, with a flexible and modular configuration;
  • Design and develop a distributed control architecture which, considering the manufacturing organizations and their modular design, are able to synchronize the operation of different plants;
  • Design and develop a layer of infrastructure services between the control system and the equipment/devices involved in productive activities.

This layer of services wil allow:

  • Interoperability between devices applied in new plants in a transparent and “plug-and-play” way that will facilitate the scalability of the solution;
  • The integration of automated sub-systems, task oriented, in a variety of complex assembly, testing and quality control tasks;
  • Define cost models to optimize the configuration of plants in terms of automation and modularization. These models will consider the potential for adaptation to meet needs for new products.

The demonstration of this system will be made in a factory producing wind turbines.
